Memories. I have hiked many of the old camps of the West Side. Many of these camps were only recently abandoned in the mid 60’s when I hiked them. I hiked to a camp, in which the spur was abandoned in the 1910’s, which had a rich amount of physical history laying around. Everything from a spar tree, to cabins and cabling. The only problem getting there was the Manzanita!!! Cut my legs to crap! Found many old bottles and stuff!!

Its because of this way of working why now (May 26th 2024) uber rates at Lax is down to street level rate. Now lax and street has same rate. Congrats and thank you. Long term... and short term... what ever you are yelling and honking has good intension but its a kids way of earning.. what we (as a driver like you) is to avoid LAX pickup.. just do street pickup for 3 weeks... not 1 day not 2 days for few hours.. lets do 3 weeks staright and do it like a man... not like a kid.

I never thought that the driver would be so far from the window, This happens on all trains, the distance where the driver sits from the main window of the train? I find the position uncomfortable, I find it too far away

I appreciate safety features that *assist* the driver: lane keep, blind spot monitoring, auto lane change, adaptive cruise control, heads up display, etc. But I do not understand this obsession to have fully self-driving cars. If a friend of mine buys a tesla 3 and wants to commute on one of these empty roads at 100 mph can FSD or adaptive cruise control autopilot comply? BTW despite the long video you were pretty entertaining.

This railroad started in Tuolumne City. You can still see the narrow gauge track leaving the mill and crossing the highway leading to Tuolumne from Sonora. You can also see track near the Black Oak Casino. Just beyond the turntable was a large wooden trestle called River Bridge. The West Side had 4 big ones. You can still see the one at Bourland and can drive right to it. In east Sonora near Highway 108 is the Sullivan Creek trestle. It shows what they were like. The track was at its longest at Cherry Lake 70 miles by rail from Tuolumne. The short track at right angle to the track was a speeder turnout. Small vehicles could out of the way on those when something else came along. There was a siding near the bridge. There were sidings every few miles. They needed to meet and get past other trains as well as to store cars. The platform near the bridge was for a tenders cabin. There were on fire watch.

My friend, west side in early 80'S that was bought by the owner of toco bell had small truck rail cars that ran back and forth to river Bridge after the Bridge was blown up for a movie. That ride stopped 4 years later. I still look for spots of west side camps all up in the area where there hard to find.

Wow, you took quite the detour! Gare du Nord is the busiest train station outside Japan, and Paris kinda is Europe's Tokyo, so there's one golden rule in the Parisian transit system: you have to be "sign stupid" or you'll end up running entire crowd management circuits made for other passengers from other lines. Being creative, instinctive, or trying to follow the crowds (that go in all directions anyway) will only result in you getting lost of taking lengthy and crowded detours, sometimes against the flow and you'll feel like a salmon climbing up a river. The rule is just like IKEA's "read the effing manual", in Paris transit system it is "just follow the signs" the instant you alight from any given type of train and you'll end up where you want to go. They've put extra effort in putting signs everywhere that usually map the shortest path to your destination. One other thing about the Paris transportation system: There's no interlining in the metro, and only 2 out of the currently 16 lines have branches, so a given platform only serves one line and a direction. If you're in the metro zone, you shouldn't have to revalidate your ticket or pass to exit towards the mainline train side of the station or the street. If you need to revalidate, like you did in Gare du Nord, it is because you went through the RER zone. In the RER you validate at both entry and exit, but in the metro it's only at entry. Anyway, always keep your ticket on you in case you are controlled. Gare du Nord at rush hour is an experience in itself. 😅
